June's White Wine Recipes

The month of June brought the dire need for white wine, so we showed off each of our white wines and a recipe pairing for each on our social media accounts all month long!

We featured our 2014 Pinot Gris and our 2015 Rosé which both sold out by the end of the month! We still have our 2014 Pinot Blanc, 2014 Viognier, 2014 Riesling, and our newly released 2014 Chardonnay all available for purchase, as well as our 2015 Pinot Gris

And don't worry, if you missed the recipe pairings, we've rounded them all up here for you. Get your taste buds ready!

You can find them online at the links below or you can print them out. See below for more details.

Each recipe was created by our resident chef Daniel Mason! He has cooked at restaurants all over the world and brings years of experience to our wine pairings. Be on the lookout for more recipes from him soon.

For our 2014 Pinot Gris, pair this Hazelnut Creme for a decadent dessert.

Pair our 2014 Pinot Blanc with your favorite fish in this dish

Have you ever tried Bacon Jam? Give it a try with our 2014 Riesling for a real treat.

For a perfect summer dish, pair these Coriander Crusted Scallops with our 2014 Viognier.

If you got your hands on our Rosé, try this delicious Salmon Tartare for a beautiful and colorful pairing.

And for a late summer dinner to impress, look no further than our 2014 Chardonnay and this Smoked Salmon Risotto

Celebrate National Pink Day with Rosé!

We like to think that Rosé is a wine that can be enjoyed all year long, but it has certain charms in the spring and summer when temperatures are warm and something crisp and fresh is the desire of the day. And what better day to drink pink than on National Pink Day?!

Take today to enjoy a glass of your favorite rosé or stock up on your favorite. We'll be drinking Torii Mor's of course!

Cheers!

A Summer White Wine Round Up

Summer brings to mind smoking BBQs, plenty of time outdoors, and bright sunshine. And there isn't a better pairing for the activities of summer than chilled white wine.

Regardless of your summer activities, we have a wine that will perfectly compliment wherever your summer adventures lead. June is the start of summer in most areas of the country so we thought we'd kick off the season with  our white wines to help make summer easy, breezy, and your favorite one yet.

2014 Pinot Gris

Hosting a summer salmon bake or enjoying an evening on the beach? There isn't a better pairing than our Pinot Gris. Refreshing with a light acidity, our Pinot Gris tastes just delicious with salmon or other seafood and the salty sea at your feet.

2014 Pinot Blanc

Looking for summer in a glass? Look no further than our flowery, lemony Pinot Blanc. With a light acidity and sweet floral note, this light and breezy wine pairs easily with risottos, gazpacho, and loaded summer salads.

2014 Viognier

Here is your summer evening wine of choice regardless of location, food or ambiance. Pairs well with good conversation and friends. When you can't decide what to drink, our Viognier can be your fall back. Rich and oily on the palate with stone fruit notes, it pairs well with even seafood and poultry or just a sunset and good conversation.

2014 Riesling

This Riesling is full of minerality and herbaceousness with just a touch of fruit. With notes of dried herbs and peppercorns, this bone-dry Riesling is as casual as picnics by the lake or a hike through the woods.

2014 Chardonnay

This spicy and warm Chardonnay lends itself to the more special nights of summer: dinner parties, celebrations, and just when you want an event to feel a bit elevated. The Chardonnay will also be a versatile pairing, and good for most dishes of summer.

2015 Rosé

The perfect spring and summer sipper...and will last into the holiday season for Thanksgiving dinner too! Wildflowers, red berries, and a bright acidity give the Rosé the traits of a summer treat.

Cheers!

Oregon Wine Month Round Up

As I'm sure you've heard, May was Oregon Wine Month and all the wineries in the state turned out to celebrate. We had our own little celebration on social media and highlighted our favorite moments from Torii Mor's history all month long. I'm rounding them up here for you, just in case you missed them all.

We started way back at the beginning: Our vineyard was planted in 1972 by Jim McDaniel, a pioneer in the Willamette Valley wine industry. His daughter wrote a great article for Oregon Wine Press about Jim's and other's experiences in the valley early on and even published a book with stories of the valley's first growers.

Our owner, Dr. Don Olson bought the vineyard in 1985 and started Torii Mor Winery with 1993 as our first vintage. Our first ever wine with a screw cap was our 2005 Pinot Gris. Now all of our white wines and our Willamette Valley Pinot Noir and Deux Verres Reserve Pinot Noir are all under screw cap. While the debate rages on, we'll walk the line. And if you ask Jacques, he'll tell you that screw cap is the way to go.

In 2007 we completed construction on our winery. With solar panels on the roof, our gravity flow vineyard was awarded two sustainability awards. We produce all our wine in this winery and if you ever join us for a club event, cellar tour, or holiday weekend, you can see our facility up close. Here's a picture from 2006 when the winery was still a work in progress!

In 2012 we celebrated the 40th anniversary of the planting of Olson Estate Vineyard. The luncheon took place in the vineyard, of course, with a variety of gems from the library.

In 2014 we expanded! We started a tasting room in Woodinville, WA, just a few miles away from downtown Seattle. People love Pinot Noir in Seattle! We've loved experiencing and being a part of a new wine country.

During Oregon Wine Month we also joined Roco, Purple Hands, Four Graces, Thistle, and Lange for a special Memorial Day Weekend event: First Sip of Summer. The purchase of a tasting card gave you a map of the tasting tour and a special discount on all wine purchases at the five wineries. We loved partnering with our friends to celebrate the start of summer!

Did you do anything to celebrate Oregon Wine Month? Even if you weren't in Oregon, enjoying a bottle of Oregon wine still counts as a celebration!

Cheers!

Looking Forward to Summer: Vineyard Luncheon

Is there anything more idyllic in the summertime than enjoying a picnic lunch in the rolling hills of a vineyard, glass of wine in hand? We don't think so! Which is why this summer we're hosting a vineyard luncheon!

We've hosted vineyard luncheons in the past and when Olson Estate Vineyard turned 40, we celebrated with a party in the vineyard. It's a beautiful locale for any event and we're eager to host another lunch this summer.

Vineyard luncheons are a special event because they include a once-in-a-lifetime tour through the vineyard with Jacques. Learn the history of the vines, where they came from, and what clones and varietals are featured in our vineyard. Learn about Jim McDaniel who first planted the vineyard in 1972 and get up close and personal with the vines to see differences in leaves, clusters, and the details of grafting.

After the educational tour, you enjoy lunch on our deck overlooking the vineyard and our breathtaking view of Mt Hood and the Cascade Range. And it really doesn't get much better than that does it?

The 2016 Vineyard Luncheon on July 23 will take place at our Dundee Vineyard at 11:30am. Tickets are $35 per person and available for purchase here

Cheers!

To celebrate the weekend each winery will feature something special, whether it's a unique wine flight, a food truck, or delicious chocolate, the First Sip of Summer tasting tour is sure to be a treat!

Here's a map of the tour. We'll be selling tickets in our tasting room and at our club event. We can't wait to see you there!

Oregon Wine Month 2016

May is a special month for Oregon Wine for multiple reasons: the sun starts shining, celebrating Memorial Day Weekend is a treat, and it's Oregon Wine Month. Oregon Wine Month gives us wineries a chance to really celebrate who we are, our rich history of wine in Oregon, and to share the joy and camaraderie of wine with others.

Here at Torii Mor, we'll be celebrating with a few fun and exciting things so here's the detailed report on what to expect from Torii Mor this May!

Social Media

Keep tabs on our vineyards progress, what Jacques and Jon are up to in the winery and distillery, and take a month-long jaunt through our history! Each Tuesday and Saturday expect a special post on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter with a tidbit of TM's history. We'll journey back through our twenty-plus years as a winery and the forty-plus years of our vineyard to pull out some stories that are real treats.

Win a Wine Country Weekend!

As well, we'll be sharing all the details of a special sweepstakes! The Oregon Wine Board is offering the chance to win a wine country getaway in the Willamette Valley or in Southern Oregon! All the details can be found here or be sure to check our social media platforms for more info!

Events

The crowning jewel of events during Oregon Wine Month is Memorial Day Weekend. This special weekend is one of two weekends in the year where certain wineries and vineyards open to the public and where special discounts and special wines are the name of the game. This year we're partnering up with Roco Winery, Thistle Wines, Lange Winery, and the Four Graces to host a special tasting tour: First Sip of Summer! Take a tour through Dundee Hills, tasting at each of the five wineries and receive 15% off wine purchases!

Keep an eye on social media for Torii Mor and your other favorite Oregon brands for more celebrations and fun during May, Oregon Wine Month! See you on Memorial Day weekend!

Cheers!
