Vintage 2012

The last four vintages have all had late starts, and 2012 was no exception. Spring brought us warmer and dryer weeks than we had expected. Despite record rain in March, the summer was dry, and temperatures reached the 100° in early August. Warm east winds desiccated the ripening fruit throughout September and October, causing us to have smaller than usual clusters and berries. The grapes did have higher sugars levels, the flavors were darker, and the tannins were not consistently ripe.

Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
The 2012 Nysa came out to be a powerful and extracted wine. The aroma lends roses, and dried blueberries and blackberries to the nose. It starts semi-sweet, with refined tannins and a bold, strong feel to the wine. The finish is long, with power and grace. A Cabernet lover’s Pinot Noir. While the wine is good now with some aeration, it could do with a few years of cellering to round out the rougher edges.
Vineyard Notes
Nysa Vineyard is located in the Dundee Hills AVA in the Willamette Valley. The mid-elevation of just over 600 feet, combined with the rich red Jory soil and its southeastern exposure, make Nysa a remarkable sight
Production Notes
The wine is 100% Pommard Clone, and was aged in all French oak for 21 months. We used 33% new, 16% one year oak, and the rest in neutral French oak.
