Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
The 2021 Torii Mor Alloro Vineyard Pinot Noir displays sweet, distinct aromatics, richly perfumed plum notes, sweet dark cherries, graham crackers, anise, and light complexity. The flavors are very elegant, sweet, rich and juicy. A rich entry highlighted by light cocoa notes with very forward fruit, framing the sweet red and dark cherries. The texture is, sweet and rich, with great elegance and great concentration from beginning to end. The finish is long, with a rich-sweet tannin elegance, supported by juicy acidity and sweet fruit-chocolate complex notes.
Vineyard Notes
The Alloro Vineyard is located in the Laurel Ridge section of the Chehalem Mountains. It is a 20 acres Vineyard planted in 1999 to mostly Pinot Noir clones, facing South West, at an elevation between 475 (Pommard) and 700 feet (Dijon 667) on Laurelwood soils and Jory subsoil. The clonal selections for this vineyard designate are: Dijon 667 (30.77%) and Pommard (69.23%). The vineyard is LIVE certified.
Production Notes
The 2021 growing season was hot and dry, with wide swings in weather conditions. An abnormally cold period at the end of May and a relatively cool wet period around bloom resulted in lower yields. The heat in the summer included a 5-day stretch that averaged 103F highs and a 92-day span with only .02 inches of rain. Through the dry vintage emerged fruit with very little disease pressure, full ripeness, and deep concentration while retaining good acidity. All these factors culminated to produce exceptionally balanced wines exhibiting flavors of intense dark fruit, earthiness, and minerality paired with floral and red fruit aromatics.
Winemaker Notes
Harvested September 16, at 24.7 to 25.1 Brix, the fruit was handpicked, sorted, destemmed, then fermented without cold soak, in small 1.5 ton bins for 17 to 26 days without cold soak, with RB2, BRG, and RC 212, and punched down three times a day. The wine was aged for 16 months in 28% new French oak, the balance neutral oak. The barrels were racked in August when the blend was put together before returning to neutral barrels until bottling. Torii Mor Winery is LIVE certified, and this bottling is “LIVE certified sustainable”.
